I recently happened across this egregious example of the fly tipper’s craft whilst out taking photographs of an unrelated subject. The blatant depositing of numerous bathtubs across a wide area lent the scene a surreal quality that, as a photographer I found difficult to resist. I can only guess how long this dumping had been going on - some of the tubs had clearly been there a long time. Although access has now been limited by a public spirited digger driver, I would imagine that clearing the area of old bathroom furniture would be a huge job. Fly tipping is a curse for farmers, landowners and countryside users. Many parts of Britain suffer despoilation on a regular basis, with the perpetrators facing little chance of being caught and penalised.
